Why does Timbermate woodfiller turn black when I apply it?
Timbermate woodfiller may turn black if you are not using a high-grade stainless steel or plastic trowel. The oxides in Timbermate turn black from low grade metals.
Can I color Timbermate woodfiller?
Yes, you can color Timbermate. Since Timbermate mixes with any tint, oil, or water-based stain, you can also customize your shade by adding coloring agents. Timbermate comes in 21 colors, ranging from Australian cypress to walnut.
How do I thaw a bucket of Timbermate woodfiller?
To thaw a bucket of water-based Timbermate, just add hot water. Small containers may be microwaved for 30 seconds at a time until they soften. But please remember to take the metal handle off the bucket of Timbermate, and make sure you don’t accidentally leave a metal knife in the bucket or microwave!
Why does the woodfiller shrink or sink?
Timbermate woodfiller appears to shrink or sink if you did not completely fill the hole you are repairing. We designed the woodfiller to fill every crack and crevice it encounters. Generally, you should apply Timbermate in layers that are ¼-inch thick. Allow Timbermate to dry completely between layers.
How do I make my woodfiller repair permanent, i.e., no washing away or dissolving?
To make your Timbermate repair permanent, you should always apply a finish coat.
Why does the woodfiller clog sand paper?
If Timbermate is wet and you sand it, the woodfiller will clog your sand paper because it gets stuck in the grains of the paper. Only sand Timbermate when it is dry.
What type of sand paper should I use when sanding Timbermate?
Timbermate may be sanded with any grit of paper; however, if you are using Timbermate as a grain filler, use a sand paper that is not coarser than 120.
Why does the woodfiller dry a lighter color?
Timbermate lightens and then returns to its original color as it dries fully. If you are using a coloring agent with the woodfiller, the color will not change.
How do I know the woodfiller is dry?
You’ll know that the woodfiller is dry when you sand it and the resulting dust is the consistency of baby powder.
After staining Timbermate, do I need to apply a finish?
After staining Timbermate you will need to apply a finish. You can let it dry and come back to apply the finish. Applying a finish coat to ensures Timbermate’s permanency.
